The New Melton Hospital Project has been awarded the 2024 Asia Pacific IJGlobal Social Infrastructure Deal of the Year Award at an event attended by more than 250 infrastructure and energy leaders in Singapore recently.

The IJGlobal Awards are renowned as the gold standard in peer-reviewed accolades for greenfield infrastructure and energy. Attracting more than 1,500 submissions worldwide, they are esteemed for their transparency and meticulous evaluation process.

The Capella-led Exemplar Health consortium for the New Melton Hospital Project was named preferred bidder in July 2024 for the New Melton Hospital (NMH) PPP. with completion expected in 2029.

The consortium comprises:

  • Capella Capital as lead sponsor, investor (on behalf of Lendlease), financial advisor and asset manager
  • Lendlease as design and construction partner
  • Honeywell and Compass Group Healthcare as facilities services providers
  • Invesis Coöperatie U.A as investor.

The New Melton Hospital will be Victoria’s first all-electric hospital, supporting the state’s net-zero 2050 target. Designed for long-term sustainability, the facility will incorporate rooftop solar PV and aims for a 5 Star Green Star Buildings rating.

Capella Capital, as financial advisor to Exemplar Health, structured Australia’s largest non-recourse greenfield infrastructure financing in 2024.

Despite market volatility the robust finance solution ensured successful project outcomes.

The lender group includes major Australian, European, and Japanese banks. The financing features a state contribution as well as a sustainability loan, validated by a third-party reviewer, reinforcing the project’s environmental commitments.

Located in Cobblebank, 40km west of Melbourne CBD, the project will improve healthcare access while setting a benchmark for sustainable hospital infrastructure in Australia.
The Victorian Health Building Authority is overseeing the development, and the hospital will operate as a public hospital under Western Health.
