Sydney International Convention Centre Celebrates 10 Years of Operations

The International Convention Centre Sydney (ICC Sydney) is now celebrating its 10th year of operations following its opening in 2016, having been delivered on time and within budget.

The Capella Capital-led consortium financed, designed, constructed and now maintains and manages the project in a public-private partnership with the NSW Government delivering Australia’s largest convention and exhibition facilities situated at the intersection of Sydney’s academic, cultural and technology precincts.

The Darling Harbour Live consortium brings together valued partners comprising Capella Capital, Lendlease, Legends Global, Hostplus, Aware Super and Downer that together have worked hand in hand with the NSW Government – Placemaking NSW to provide this critical infrastructure to the people of NSW.

Opening in December 2016 with a Keith Urban concert, the venue successfully hosts international and national conferences and exhibitions, concerts, shows and other events including hosting international dignitaries, numerous heads of state, royalty, business leaders, sports stars and celebrities from all corners of the globe.

In 2020 the facility also played a vital part in the NSW response to the COVID pandemic allowing the NSW Government to avail itself of the multifunctional spaces with the complex.

Since 2016, this landmark venue has held more than 4,100 events with attendances of nearly eight million patrons, generating an economic contribution to NSW in excess of $3.75 billion.

The project has also achieved numerous awards and three prestigious architecture awards, one of which was an International Architecture Award for Urban Planning and Landscape Architecture from the Chicago Athenaeum.

Peter Robertson, Chief Executive Officer, Project Co Representative, Darling Harbour Live Project said he was proud that Capella Capital had led the project from conception to current operations, delivering the ICC Sydney on time and on budget.

“Capella Capital continues to be integral in the Darling Harbour Live consortium for what is one of the nation’s most prestigious international venues for conventions, exhibitions, and entertainment and has had an extraordinary influence in transforming Darling Harbour.

“We look forward to ongoing success with our partners as the ICC Sydney continues to offer world-class experiences for both locals and visitors while significantly boosting the economy.”
